Smyth wins, Harrington closes gap, Clarke captures form

Des Smyth's final-round 71 has seen him claim victory in the US Champions Tour qualifying competition in Florida.

The Irishman's four-round total of 275 gave him victory over Seji Ebihara by one stroke.

Ebihara, who topped the European Senior Tour money list this year after winning three events, had led overnight. But he compiled a disappointing last round of 76 to hand Smyth the $42,000 first prize at Rolling Oaks.

Meanwhile, Padraig Harrington has sliced Maarten Lafeber's lead in the BMW Asian Open in Taiwan to just one stroke. The Dubliner shot a four-under 68 to place himself on 12 under alongside Trevor Immelman.

Darren Clarke is also in action today, and has recaptured his form on the third day of the Dunlop Phoenix tournament in Japan to close on leader Kaname Yokoo.

Clarke fired a third-round 65 to narrow the gap at the top to one shot. Yokoo lies 13 under, Clarke twelve under.

Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia are among those joint second on seven under, with Tiger Woods three under.
