Double joy for McGovern at Handy Wallace pro-am

Brendan McGovern played the shot of a lifetime at Sutton during the BCM Handy Wallace pro-am tournament.

The PGA Irish Region vice-captain carded a rare albatross at the 514-yards 12th hole when his three wood second shot popped into the cup for an amazing 'two'.

It helped the Headfort Club pro to share top of the leaderboard on six-under-par 64 with Damian Mooney who was in the shake up for the third day running.

McGovern added three birdies, as well, reducing the long 3rd hole to four strokes, clipping a shot off par at the short 6th and making three at the par four 10th. He didn't drop a shot during the round.

Mooney again went on the birdie trail spreading nine of them over his card - eight being birdie threes added to a four at the 12th hole. In all he had 10 'threes' during his round with the birdies flying at the 2nd, 4th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 16th, 17th and 18th holes.

It was double success for Brendan McGovern as he also led in the winning team on 94 points.

His amateurs were David McArdle (14), Eoghan Wallace (16) and former Dublin senior footballer Paddy Holden (17).
