Clarke wins English Open

Darren Clarke has won the English Open for the third time in four years after a powerful finish at the Forest of Arden course to reach the clubhouse with an overall score of 17-under.

Clarke started the day tied for first along with Soren Hansen and Raphael Jacquelin on 13-under-par but as his co-leaders faltered on the final round today Clarke went from strength to strength.

The Dungannon man carded a four-under-par 68 to win the tournament by three shots from Hansen while Jacquelin finished well behind on 12-under alongside Phillip Price.

It was a masterful display from the Irishman who was always amongst the leaders throughout the competition despite being left stranded on the course after play was delayed for an hour on Thursday.

Of the other Irish players in the field, Phillip Walton finished on level par, Paul McGinley was another shot back on plus one while Eamonn Darcy finished on plus five.
