After the first day's play in the 36-holes Monkstown pro-am tournament there 's a traffic jam at the top of the leaderboard. Just two strokes cover a dozen players which suggests a mad scramble for the winner's cheque at the end.

Morning starters John Langan and Peter Jones set the standard with a pair of two-under-par 68s and later in the day they were joined by Brendan McGovern, the vice-captain of the PGA Irish Region.
