John Langan with a two-under-par 69 topped the leaderboard at Ardee as six players qualified in the Sunderland of Scotland PGA Irish Region Masters at Ardee.

He will lead the six Irish challengers into the £25,000 grand final at Irvine in Scotland on September 3 to 6.Langan, one of the last to finish, saved a play-off for the position after the twice rain-delayed tournament.

The Milltown assistant paved the way for his success on the way out after dropping a shot at the short 2nd hole where he missed the green and failed to get up and down. He then made three birdies in four holes from the 6th, making threes at six and nine and a four at the long 8th.

His return trip was a model of consistency as he made nine straight pars.

Karl O'Donnell looked set for the top spot when two-under-par with three holes to play but then disaster struck as he bogeyed the 16th and 18th holes to share second place with Justin Parsons on level par 71.

The other qualifiers are Peter Jones, Stephen Hoey and Raymond Burns.
