Golf: Pettersson takes lead at Algarve Open

Sweden’s Carl Pettersson currently leads the Algarve Open in Portugal after carding a six-under-par opening-round 66 yesterday.

The Swede leads by four shots from a group of four players who are currently tied on two under par.

Ireland’s Philip Walton is currently level par after 11 holes, but his opening round was cut short when high winds caused play to be suspended yesterday afternoon.

Des Smyth is three over par after 16 holes, while David Higgins is four over after 11. Ronan Rafferty completed his round on six over par.
