Golf: Eichelberger rains supreme in Florida

Dave Eichelberger used a little rain to end a two-and-a-half-year drought as bad weather halted play midway through the final round of the Emerald Coast Classic at The Moors Golf Club.

Eichelberger, who had not won since early August 1999, had a two-stroke lead on Doug Tewell after 10 holes when the conditions took a turn for the worse.

After a short delay, play was cancelled and scores reverted back to the totals through 36 holes.

That meant Eichelberger’s 10-under 130 was two shots better than Tewell and four strokes ahead of Lanny Wadkins.

It was the sixth Senior Tour victory for the 58-year-old Eichelberger, who had not finished higher than eighth in any of his seven previous tournaments this season.

The reversion to Saturday’s scores did not affect Eichelberger or Tewell but was bad news for Graham Marsh, who was three-under for the day after 15 holes, having leapt from 16th to third.
