Genuity Championship: Woods struggles to clear the pack

Tiger Woods shot a five-under-par 67 to finish among the main group, two strokes behind leader Chris DiMarco after the first round of the Genuity Championship in Miami.

"It could have been a little bit better, but I am not going to be disappointed," said Woods, who had birdies at the 14th, 15th and 17th.

"I played well today and it was nice making a couple of putts coming in."

DiMarco attacked the Doral Resort and Spa course with birdies on the first three holes.

His round would have been even better but for a bogey at the 17th, where he drove into a bunker.

"It's nice to play well in Florida," said DiMarco.

"I don't think I have had too many really good Florida tournaments, so this is a good start."

Woods said of DiMarco: "He plays beautifully. He's hitting good shots and obviously he's rolling the ball well.

"There's no substitute for having a lot of confidence and he obviously has a lot of confidence because of the way he has been playing."

DiMarco is one shot better than a quartet that includes Vijay Singh and Ernie Els.

Woods is among 10 players at five-under, including David Toms and Steve Elkington.
