Golf: Goosen wraps up classic win
Retief Goosen won the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth by a massive eight shots today to go back to the top of the European Order of Merit he won last year.
A tour-record 13 strokes clear after his course-record 63 in the third round, the US Open champion resumed with a double-bogey six but was never going to be threatened unless he continued to self-destruct. It did not happen.
There was another six at the long 15th and a closing bogey, but three birdies came as well to give Goosen the £150,000 first prize with a 73 and 14-under-par total of 274.
Sweden’s Pierre Fulke, who will make his Ryder Cup debut in September, showed a return to form with a best-of-the-day 66 to pip Sergio Garcia for second place. Ernie Els was fourth.
