Ireland's Paul McGinley got off to a bad start at the Dunhill Championship in Johannesburg today.

The overnight leader had not dropped a shot in his first-round 66 but bogeyed the eighth and ninth this afternoon to go the turn in 36 and back to six under.

Things got worse for the 35-year-old Dubliner, perhaps now feeling the effects of his six-week lay-off, when he dropped another shot at the 11th to fall five off the pace.

Playing partner Andrew Coltart was faring somewhat better - the Scot picking up birdies on the fifth, seventh and 10th to move to seven under and within three of the lead still held by Grewal and Wessels.
