Golf: Harrington signs driver deal

Padraig Harrington has signed a deal which could bring him a six-figure bonus.

All the Dubliner has to do is win his first major - and win it using a certain driver.

The club is Wilson’s new Deep Red 365, which Harrington put into his bag for the first time at the Volvo Masters in November and immediately ended a run of seven runners-up finishes.

That victory lifted him into the world’s top 10.

He said: ‘‘I had been testing the driver for some time, so my performance came as no surprise to me.

‘‘I believe it can help give me the edge I need to win my first major title.’’

Harrington, second to Retief Goosen on the 2001 European Order of Merit, is to be at the forefront of an advertising campaign for the club.
