Golf: Cancelled World Championships will count

Golf's European Tour has confirmed it will include the cancelled American Express World Championships as a Volvo Order of Merit ranking event.

Players must compete in at least 11 ranking events each year to be placed in the Order of Merit, but the cancellation of the World Championships in September because of the terrorist attacks on the United States left some players short.

As a result Sergio Garcia holds on to 27th place despite featuring in only 11 tournaments.

Scotland's Alastair Forsyth has been confirmed in 116th place - just outside the elite top 115 - despite missing out on a chance to improve because of the cancellation of the World Championships.

However, the European Tour has promised to compensate him by offering more invitations.
