After a one-hole play-off, Ian Stanley from Australia won the British Seniors' Open Championship at Royal County Down.

He beat New Zealander Bob Charles after the pair had tied at six-under-par.

Stanley, winner of the Seniors' PGA Championship this year, had a chance to

wrap up the title and the first prize of £79,000stg at the last hole but three-putted from 20 feet for bogey six as Charles made par, despite missing the green.

At the 19th, Charles was in sand off the tee and took four to the par five green.

He was 25 feet from the flag with Stanley 20 feet away in three.

Stanley lagged up to three feet and holed for the title. Charles had failed to roll home his first putt and made bogey six.
