Golf: Monty magic brings early Open lead
Twenty-four hours after making fun of his dire record in the event, Colin Montgomerie shot a superb six under par 65 at Royal Lytham today and for the first time in his life led the Open championship.
Six under par after just 10 holes, having gone to turn in a magical 30 strokes that included a chip-in for eagle, Montgomerie threatened to rewrite the record books when he started for home by rolling in a 30-foot putt on the next.
