Gustavo Rojas from Argentina has set a hot pace in the opening round of the Smurfit Europran Open at the K club.

Rojas has reached the turn in five under par 32 with two eagles and a birdie on his card.

Colin Montgomerie, who started later in the day, has been installed as the favorite following his win in the Murphy's Irish Open at Fota island last weekend.

Defending the European Open title is Lee Westwood of England.
