Colin Montgomerie's lead has been cut to just one stroke. After a hat-trick of birdies from the fourth hole Montgomerie had moved to 13 under par for the tournament but he then bogied the seventh hole and the tenth where he was in the water.

He is now just one stroke ahead of Australia's Adam Scott who has just three holes to play with Montgomerie having eight to go.

At eight under par in joint third place out on the course are Thomas Bjorn from Denmark and England's Gary Emmerson.

Padraig Harrington and Darren Clarke have finished at six under par, Paul McGinley is in the clubhouse at five under and Eamonn Darcy finished level par.
