Golf: Tiger can win 30 majors - Bjorn

Dane Thomas Bjorn is tipping Tiger Woods to win an incredible 30 majors.

Bjorn, among the favourites for the Volvo PGA championship starting at Wentworth tomorrow, saw more evidence of Woods’s brilliance in Germany last week.

The world number one came from 10 strokes behind at halfway to win by four and Bjorn said: "He does it again and again and again.

"If I was in that position, sometimes you think 'why should I bother? Just go out and play, go home and prepare for next week'. He doesn’t.

"And when it comes to the majors he puts on a completely different face. He’s just so focused and is just there with one purpose. He hits every golf shot like his life is depending on it.

"It’s easy to say ‘why aren’t the rest of you doing that?’ It isn’t easy when you’re out there for 72 holes and the whole place is going crazy.

"He’s won five of the last six majors and four in a row. I think he’s going to beat Jack’s record (18) and I think he can win 30 majors.

"If he keeps his desire he can be number one for the next 10-15 years, but I do think that eventually he’s going to lose the desire.

"He’s in contention pretty much every week and I think eventually you are going to say 'I just don’t want it any more, I’ve had enough. I’ve won my 30-odd majors and my 140 tournaments'.

"I think I heard Ernie (Els) once say that if you ever get to a 14-point average on the world rankings that would be the maximum. Tiger is on 32 now, getting on for three times Phil Mickelson, who’s number two.

"The guy is fantastic. Some don’t like talking about him and some say they can be better than him, but I just don’t kid myself. I appreciate living in the era of the best player that’s ever played the game."
