Golf: Smyth one shot behind the lead

Des Smyth is the best placed Irishman in the Madeira Island Open, lying in second place on eight under par just one shot behind the leader, Malcolm McKenzie of England.

Of the other Irish players in the field, Philip Walton is on five under, Paddy Gribben is on two under and Gary Murphy is one over par.
