Day of tie hole drama in Munster inter-club finals

Tie hole drama was the order of the day when the finals of three Munster inter-club competitions were decided over the weekend.

The Mixed Foursomes was decided in Doneraile’s favour at Gold Coast when Eddie Roche and Eileen Coleman got home at the 20th against Tramore’s Martin Walsh and Amanda O’Connor.

At the same tie hole only a few minutes previously, the Waterford club had levelled the overall match when John O’Brien and Ann Mitchell picked up their second point of a real thriller against Peter Dunne and Anna Cotter.

However, Doneraile had an ace in their number one pairing, Tim O’Mahony and Aine Heffernan, who won both their matches while the third point in the final came from Sean Barrett and Karena Hunter.Doneraile now represent Munster in the national finals at Shandon Park, Belfast, on September 2-3.

Limerick emerged as Fred Daly Boys Trophy champions at Newcastle West when Ross Fitzgerald defeated Brian Sheridan of Waterford Castle in the decisive match at the first tie hole.

The other Limerick winners were Ciarán Vaughan and Morgan Hanley. They now go forward to the national finals at Galway on August 23rd

Castletroy qualified for the Irish finals of the Junior Foursomes at Clonmel on August 16 with a thrilling win over Mallow at Newcastle West. Mallow’s Jack Dillon and Jack Serrick won the first match by one hole against Michael Kitt and Adam Myers before Dara Neville and Niall O’Brien levelled against Roy Whelan and Dan O’Sullivan before the Castletroy pair prevailed with a birdie on 19.
