No resting on laurels for Walker Cup heroes

Of the GUI’s five representatives on the team which helped secure a 16½ to 9½ win on the Lancashire links at the weekend, three are turning professional, with Cormac Sharvin remaining in the amateur ranks to complete his education at the University of Stirling in Scotland and Jack Hume keeping his options open as he heads to European Tour qualifying school later this month.
Gavin Moynihan, Paul Dunne and Gary Hurley, though, are committed to turning pro with Moynihan and Dunne set to play in this week’s Italian Open while Hurley heads to Q-school before teeing it up as a pro at next month’s Volopa Irish Challenge, a tournament for which Hume also yesterday accepted an invitation.
