LESS than a week before Rory McIlroy possibly writes his name into golfing immortality, the world No. 1 confesses he is no longer in love with the game.

It’s not that McIlroy doesn’t love golf. But the love of the game that once consumed the curly-haired only child of Gerry and Rosie McIlroy growing up Holywood bears no resemblance to the attitude the 25-year old will take to his seventh Augusta Masters.

“When I was a kid if I spent a day away from the game I couldn’t wait to get back to the golf course,” he said. Now I can’t wait for a week off (smiling) but then that’s just nothing to do with the game.
