Dawson puts cap on stunning week

Dawson was part of the Irish team that won the Triple Crown in the Home International Championship that ended in Wales on Friday. Two days earlier, he had been confirmed as a

recipient of a Paddy Harrington Golf Scholarship to NUI Maynooth having gained the necessary points in his Leaving Certificate.

On Saturday, he flew into Shannon from Bristol to help Tramore in their bid to capture the Munster section of the Senior Cup and even though he didn’t have a practice round, still produced some magnificent golf in spearheading the Waterford club’s wins over Doneraile in the semi-final and Limerick in the decider.

“This is my third year playing Senior Cup for Tramore and the second time we have qualified for the irish finals,” said Dawson.

“The standard today was really high, I was four under in both of my matches against Tim O’Mahony of Doneraile and Limerick’s Sean Poucher and still had to play 35 holes.

“I was one down after 11, drew level at the 12th and went ahead at the15th, when Sean lost a ball off the tee, before making sure with a birdie at the 18th.”

Dawson’s point was crucial for as Limerick were 2-1 ahead after Pat Murray and Darragh Fitzgerald beat Alan Thomas and David Kiely, before former Waterford hurler Paul Flynn and Chris Butler saw them through by beating Mark MacGrath and Michael Reddan respectively on the 16th and 17th.

The Irish finals will be held at Carton House on September 19 and 20.
