McSherry looking to impress

Massereene in Co Antrim is the venue, starting today, for the British Girls’ Open Amateur Championship and the Irish are hoping home advantage pays dividends, especially in the wake of the excellent performance by their team in last week’s Home Internationals at Donabate.

Lurgan’s Niamh McSherry, who collected four points as Ireland finished runners-up to England at Donabate, will be eager to do well and Dubliner Mary Doyle, after a good season, hopes to impress. Ciara Casey, Victoria Craig, Annabel Wilson and Niamh Ward are among other Irish teenagers competing.
