Rain call ruins Lowry’s charge to leave him grind it out

To think Shane Lowry had been delighted with his draw for the first two rounds of this PGA Championship.

With a late start to his first round on Thursday and early tee time for his second round yesterday, the in-form Irishman figured he would be set fair to perhaps improve on his best major championship finish of a tie for ninth place at last month’s Open Championship.

Imagine his dismay, then, when having completed part one by opening with a three-under-par 68 he arrived at Valhalla’s first tee to get the championship under way on day two and could barely see the first green through black-skied downpour in front of his eyes.
