Shane Lowry has spent the summer hinting at great things to come and will tee off at Valhalla tomorrow in the PGA Championship believing the time to make the big leap forward may have arrived.

Having started the season in a slump, he reached May already scrambling to secure to his European Tour card for 2015, but a runner-up finish to Rory McIlroy at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth has turned everything around for the 27-year-old.

“Mentally, I’ve been in a good place. I’ve been hitting the ball well and making plenty of birdies,” Lowry said yesterday before a Valhalla practice round with Pádraig Harrington. “Golf has been enjoyable over the last few months. It was a tough start to the year but I battled through that well.
