Strong-willed Spieth ready to take final leap

Golfing golden child Jordan Spieth will go into his third US Open believing he is grown up enough to win his first major championship.

Spieth, 20, has already shown he is mature beyond his years, not least in finishing second behind Bubba Watson at this year’s Masters, when his mental strength came to the fore.

A strong mind will also be needed here at Pinehurst as the US Open prides itself on offering golf’s toughest test and has a course to meet those expectations, yet the Texan feels is able to meet the challenge.
