Our correspondent travelled to the Masters without clubs, golf shoes and with a chronic shoulder problem. But when his name came out of the press lottery for 18 holes at Augusta National last Monday, nothing could stop him.

It’s on every golfer’s Bucket List. But for the majority, playing the course that hosts the Masters every year is about as realistic an ambition as winning golf’s first major. However, there’s one caveat — for members of the press who cover the Masters every year, there’s a faint glimmer of hope in the shape of the press ballot.

This year would be my year.
