Rory and Tiger pay penalty

The tournament is billed as the Return of the Giants but Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods were both cut down to size by missing the weekend rounds of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

McIlroy handed new sponsors Nike real embarrassment starting the New Year with a pair of 75s to miss the cut by four strokes.

Woods missed the cut for far more controversial reasons following a rules breach at the fifth hole that eventually led to a two-shot penalty for the world number two to miss the cut by a stroke.
