Rory McIlroy may be the king of the golfing hill right now but when it comes to Ryder Cup experience in the European team room this week at Medinah, the Irishman would rather do his talking on the golf course rather than in the team room.

McIlroy, 23, may have made giant strides in his game since his Ryder Cup debut at Celtic Manor in 2010 but the Holywood star does not believe a resumé containing two major victories has earned him the right to be a dominant voice in Europe’s team room this weekend.

“I think there’s leaders on our team that will lead with experience. I feel like with the way I’ve played the last couple of years, I don’t think my role is a leader in the team room; I think it’s more a leader out on the course and trying to lead in that way,” McIlroy said yesterday. “Try to put points on the board and try to get my point.
