McGinley draws on Olympic ‘euphoria’

PAUL McGinley was sitting with his family at the London Olympic Stadium enjoying the closing ceremony when he received a phone call from Jose Maria Olazabal offering him a vice-captaincy role at next month’s Ryder Cup.

McGinley didn’t need to be asked twice in a move many believe will keep the Dubliner to the forefront when Olazabal’s successor is named early next year.

McGinley believes Europe can draw on the euphoria generated by the 2012 Olympics for their Ryder Cup tilt in the sports mad environment of Chicago.
