Deloitte to plan future route for Killarney

Killarney Golf Club Limited has commissioned Deloitte to formulate a three-year business plan to steer it through a potentially difficult future for the golf industry.

Killarney Golf & Fishing Club is a four-time host of the Irish Open, most recently last year, but received a major blow this year when it lost the European Tour event for 2012 to Royal Portrush.

The club also reported a trading deficit of more than €232,000 for 2011 and earlier this year sold the newest of its three courses, the Lackabane, to German engineering company Liebherr, which owns the adjacent property in the Kerry town. Those developments and the continuing economic downturn prompted the club to call in professional services consultants Deloitte.
