Paul McGinley has revealed Darren Clarke has agreed not to put his name forward as a possible 2014 Ryder Cup captain to aid the Dubliner’s hopes for the position.

McGinley is considered favourite to succeed José María Olazábal for the 2014 renewal in Scotland, but is conscious that actively seeking the job could be counter-productive.

However with Clarke and Pádraig Harrington also earmarked for the captaincy at some stage, there is the danger of ‘Irish candidate fatigue’, as one source put it.
