McIlroy taking Twitter timeout

Rory McIlroy is taking a vow of twitter silence this week.

The US Open champion has been criticised for his regular updates on the social media site, most notably in the lead up to his Masters collapse last season. However he informed his 963,500 followers last night that there will be no repeat this week. He tweeted: “On my way to Augusta this afternoon.. Going offline for the rest of this week. Thank you all for your support in advance. Next time I speak to you hopefully I have a green jacket in my possession!!”
