But tears eventually flowed onto that stiff upper lip as the unfailingly honest Holywood marvel admitted recently that he cried at missing out on an Augusta National green jacket.

For three days McIlroy dominated season’s first Major Championship, shooting an opening round 65 to become the youngest-ever player to lead the Masters after the opening day.
