The Dubliner shot a 68 on the opening day and lies three shots off co-leaders Lee Westwood and Mark Tullo.

Paul McGinley has shown good form too, lying a shot behind Lawrie at three under, with Darren Clarke, Graeme McDowell, Pádraig Harrington and Shane Lowry. Michael Hoey is three shots behind them on level par with Damien McGrane and Gareth Maybin a further shot back.
