Changing of the guard

AS the race to win the US Open heats up, one thing that has become evident is that there has been a pronounced shift in the status of who’s who in world golf.

Former greats such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Pádraig Harrington and even Lee Westwood are rapidly being replaced by a younger, hungrier breed who know how to win and who are not intimidated by tradition or status.

They are tougher competitors and what they may lack in experience, they make up for with raw talent.
