Dougherty in trouble after wrecking spree

CRESTFALLEN glamour golfer Nick Dougherty is facing a stiff fine after taking a club to a tee marker during the first day of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Dougherty in trouble after wrecking spree

The three-time Tour winner absolutely destroyed a BMW logo marker with his club on the fourth hole after sending two tee shots into the trees.

Pieces of the cardboard marker lay strewn all about, forcing officials to find a replacement.

Dougherty, who credits the 2007 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship among his wins, was level par at the time but his round fell apart from that point and he crashed to 11 over for the day.

The Liverpudlian has endured a nightmare 2011, missing all 10 cuts this season, and could now be further out of pocket.

The European Tour looks unfavourably on such outbursts and slapped Sweden’s Henrik Stenson with a fine &for destroying a tee marker with his driver during the second round of the 2007 British Open at Carnoustie.
