'Working too hard Harrington’ to skip BMW at Wentworth

PÁDRAIG HARRINGTON is prepared to take his medicine and sit out next week’s BMW at Wentworth so he can go all out for more major glory.

The 39-year Dubliner said he was pulling out of the tour’s flagship event after suffering a hamstring tear and stabbing pains in his dodgy right knee after hurting himself playing chasing with his children three weeks ago.

It’s his second injury of the season following the neck problem that caused him to miss the cut in the Masters and he admits he may be paying the price for curtailing his winter break and then overdoing things in practice.

“Maybe I’m working too hard and anytime you overdo things, your body has a very good way of making you stop, as it is doing at the moment. It is my nature to over-do it. I’ve certainly over-practiced.”

Harrington hopes to return the week before for the US Open at the St Jude Classic in Memphis but he dismisses the suggestion that age is catching up with him when it comes to injury.
