Maybin sparkles as Harrington hits wall in China

WITHOUT a European Tour win since 2008, Pádraig Harrington’s long wait for a title may be extended after a modest opening 71 left him seven shots off the pace on a day of low scoring at the Volvo China Open.

Harrington bogeyed the 10th and seventh holes to leave Gareth Maybin the biggest Irish threat after shooting a smashing 65 to lie just one shot behind rookie leader Chang-won Han.

The South Korean admitted his stellar start has him dreaming of a payday to boost his flagging bank balance.
