Dramatic finale keeps Kearney’s hopes alive

NIALL KEARNEY spectacularly chipped in for a late eagle to keep his tour card hopes alive at the European Tour Qualifying School finals at PGA Golf de Catalunya.

But there was agony for former Royal County Down assistant Simon Thornton, as a bogey at his final hole and a birdie by Swede Joakim Lagergren in the last match of the day saw him miss the four-round cut by a stroke on two under par.

Colm Moriarty and Damian Mooney also failed to make the top 70 and ties, who will battle for tour cards over the final two rounds.
