GMac targets Hong Kong win

GRAEME McDOWELL was left ruing a Barclays Singapore Open final-hole three-putt that cost him taking an additional €130,000 slice out of Martin Kaymer’s Race to Dubai lead.

McDowell had to settle for a share of third in carding a final round 70 in his 200th European Tour event.

The rain-affected event wrapped-up just prior to lunch local time yesterday with Australia’s Adam Scott capturing his third Barclays Singapore Open title with a round of 68 for a 17-under par tally.

Denmark’s Anders Hansen (68) was in second place with McDowell tied with Sweden’s Rikard Karlsberg (67).

McDowell admitted: “It was disappointing to have finished on a sour note, as I hit two good shots into 18, and I felt like I had a decent first putt but it was just incredibly slow and grainy.

“But overall it has been a very productive week and I certainly would have accepted that result at the start of the week. The good thing though is I am playing Hong Kong and Martin’s not. So I’ll catch a flight up to Hong Kong very happy with my form and looking forward to playing an old fashion style course I know I can score well on.”

But while a win in Hong Kong would move McDowell past the €10m barrier in Tour earnings, he would still be some €85,000 shy of the absent Kaymer.

Kaymer had recorded a 69 to share 10th place at nine under par.

Peter Lawrie was next best of the Irish carding a last day 73 to share 25th on five-under par.

Shane Lowry unfortunately remains in 62nd place on the money list in also signing for a 73 to finish well down the board at three over par.

Lowry also heads for Hong Kong looking for a likely top-15 finish at Fanling that should put him inside the top-60, and the assurance of competing in the season-ending Dubai World Championship. Gareth Maybin was also heading to Hong Kong having finished tied with Lowry at three-over to drop three places to 39th in the Race to Dubai.
