Johnson denies Davis after record round

ZACH JOHNSON’S record-breaking performance denied England’s Brian Davis victory at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Fort Worth on Sunday.

Johnson denies Davis after record round

Davis was on course to secure his first PGA Tour title as he held a one-shot lead at the halfway stage of the final round in Texas. He birdied the first, second, sixth and seventh with a bogey at the par-four fifth the only blemish on his outward nine as he moved to 19 under.

However, he was one over par on the back nine, bogeying the 18th, to allow Johnson to steal in for a three- stroke victory, with his total of 21-under setting a tournament record.

“I was trying to force things for a period there,” Johnson said.

“I just remained patient. My mind frame was, ‘I don’t care if I win this golf tournament, or I don’t care if I lose it. I’m content with whatever happens. I’m going to go out fighting, and I’m going to go out aggressively’.”
