DOUBLE Open champion Pádraig Harrington believes Olympic gold would be the ‘rarest and most prized achievement’ for any golfer.

The three-time major winner played a key role in golf’s presentation to the International Olympic Committee, who voted to include the sport, along with rugby sevens, at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Rugby had 81 votes in favour and eight against while golf 63 in favour and 27 against. Harrington claimed that the Olympic tournament would soon surpass the majors for golfers.
