TWICE this month, Darren Clarke was poised to silence those who believed that his career as a world-class golfer was at an end.

He came to the 18th at the French Open apparently sure of a top 10 finish. That was, until he put two balls in the lake surrounding the green and ran up a quadruple bogey eight.

He moved from there to Loch Lomond last week for the Scottish Open and again looked the part for three days. However, it all went wrong once more on the final day leading to disappointment and frustration.
