RORY McILROY has returned to 16th in the world rankings after finishing fifth in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth on Sunday.

That was the youngster’s best ranking after his victory in the Dubai Desert Classic in February but he had slipped back to 20th until his outstanding performance at the weekend.

McIlroy is third on the European Tour’s Road to Dubai order of merit with 1,141,000 points behind Paul Casey (1,948,000) and Geoff Ogilvy (1,464,000).
