Magazine apologises for fake shots of Tiger’s wife
As he prepared for the Ryder Cup yesterday, the world’s No 1 golfer said he was disappointed they had been published and said it was unacceptable.
“My wife is an extension of me. We are in it together. We are a team and I care about her with all my heart,” Woods said
The fake pictures of his wife Elin Nordegren, 26, the daughter of a Swedish government minister, were printed in the magazine’s September issue. They featured alongside what publishers Dubliner Media Ltd described as a satirical article, written under the pseudonym Lou Slips in the Village People section.
“The publishers and staff at The Dubliner acknowledge that the satirical article was inappropriate and wish to sincerely apologise to Tiger Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren, and all the Ryder Cup players and their families for any offence they may have taken to it,” a statement said.
“The article was written as a satirical piece and in the context of the entire article, the publishers believed that readers would not be left with the impression that there was any truth in the assertions, it being an absurd parody of inaccurate tabloid publishing in general.”
Woods said the fans and the people of Ireland had been fantastic, but he was very disappointed with the way the article was written.
His wife, a former model, had done some bikini photographs.
“But to link her to porn websites and such is unacceptable,” Woods said.
Ms Nordegren is staying with her husband along with the other American team’s wives and partners at the course, where Woods’ mood matched the appalling weather yesterday.
“It’s hard to be very diplomatic about this when you have so much emotion involved, when my wife is involved like this,” he said.
Asked if the publication of the bogus photographs would affect his concentration, Woods said he would go out, play and hopefully win his matches.
