TEARFUL Darren Clarke insisted he was looking forward to teeing off in next week’s Ryder Cup at the K Club and dismissed suggestions he would be an emotional risk for skipper Ian Woosnam and his team-mates.

He was speaking on the eve of the Madrid Masters where he will make his competitive return to the game just over a month after his wife Heather died of cancer.

At an emotionally charged press conference, Clarke choked back tears as he spoke of how tough the last two years had been for both himself and his family as his wife battled cancer.
