Medinah service says farewell to Heather

A NUMBER of leading players, caddies, officials and members of the public yesterday attended a service held on the practice putting green outside the Medinah clubhouse in memory of Heather Clarke, who passed away after a long illness on Sunday morning last.

Medinah service says farewell to Heather

US Ryder Cup captain Tom Lehman captured the atmosphere beautifully in his few words, pointing out that no matter how important it was to win major championships and make Ryder Cup teams, they all faded into insignificance compared with the heartache of losing one’s partner in life at the age of 39.

“We don’t understand why God took Heather at such an early age and we won’t understand it until we meet again in heaven and we can ask him then,” said Lehman.

“I know that she was strong, inspirational, kind, loving and a devoted wife. She was a big and positive influence on her two boys. What we must remember is that the people around us are the most important. So, God in heaven, let us pray that you’ll be holding Heather in your right hand now, loving her and giving her peace and rest after the battle she’s been through.”
