Garcia secures Ryder Cup place as Irish slip down

SERGIO GARCIA’S equal-fifth place finish in the Open Championship means that he is now a certainty for the European Ryder Cup team at The K-Club on September 22-24.

He is fifth in the European points list and will also figure prominently in the world list when that is announced today. It has implications for Ireland’s Pádraig Harrington and Paul McGinley who drop a place respectively from seventh and eighth to eighth and ninth.
