Streakers on the green

A TRIO of streakers interrupted a ladies’ golf tournament in Galway yesterday before making their getaway on bicycles.

Streakers on the green

The men, in their mid-twenties, climbed naked over the wall of the Galway Golf Club in Salthill. After making a dash to the sixth green, they rolled around before being chased off by club officials.

“They were harmless and they just saw an opportunity for a laugh. The head referee for the Irish Ladies’ Golfing Union was close by and she took it in good spirits,” club secretary manager Pádraic Fahy said.

It is the first time the Galway club has hosted the AIB Ladies’ Provincial finals and also the first time it’s had a streaker. The golfers had moved on however, and play was not affected.

Gardaí in Salthill sent a patrol car to intercept the streakers, but they had disappeared.
